For those who celebrate, today is Thanksgiving 2024. I know there is a historical reason for this holiday; however, I often wonder why there is ONE day when we acknowledge the good things in our lives. Perhaps we are so unintentional about expressing gratitude that we need ONE day to remember to be grateful.
Gratitude is a practice. Every day should include moments of gratitude. Too often, we focus on what we don’t have, what we still want, and what we long for, which we have yet to attain.
Today and every day, let’s be intentional about gratitude. Make it a practice. I love my gratitude jar, where I drop a note when something makes me smile and feel the positive energy in my life. On those days when I feel low, pulling a note from the jar reminds me that it’s only “for now” and that there is still so much goodness around me.
In words or photos, I’d love to see what you’re grateful for today. Here’s my gratitude walk today on the cliffs and at home.
My favourite gratitude practice is one that I started last year about this time. A friend and I record notes on our phones with the voice notes feature, about what we’re grateful for that day, and then we send them to each other at random times. We don’t remember to do it every day, but we do it several times a week, and it has been fantastic!
