What a cloned AI voice can do for author marketing

While playing with new technology

Hello there,

Every once in a while I decide to introduce myself to new subscribers and to remind friends and current subscribers about what I do.

In this case, I have been exploring ways to use AI, not to write my books or essays or poems, but to express myself in multiple ways - audio, visual - and to play with technology with integrity.

I discovered Eleven Labs when I was seeking a way to produce an audiobook for my latest book, Everyday Epiphanies: Uncovering Wisdom in Ordinary Moments. I did not have the funds to do my own narration with a production studio like I did for my memoir, The Shaman’s Wife: A Mystical Journey of Surrender and Self-Discovery.

Eleven Labs allowed me to clone my voice so it is very close to how I would naturally read my book. There are other applications as well, such as text to speech, and this video which I produced on the platform.

Publishing, and the marketing it takes for books to reach audiences, is rapidly changing and it’s difficult to cut through the noise. As an author, and an entrepreneur, I’m always looking for ways to reach out that are aligned with my values (not spammy or inauthentic).

So this post is not only about introducing myself but in service of sharing something that may help Substack writers and authors. I hope it does provoke new thinking on how to share your work, even if you’re not a writer, this technology may support your services, art or consulting.
